Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute at St. David's Medical Center Participates in CardioRhythm 2011 Conference in Hong Kong

AUSTIN, Texas—Doctors and staff members of the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI) at St. David’s Medical Center recently served as presenters during CardioRhythm 2011, a three-day conference held in Hong Kong from February 25 to February 27, 2011. They shared information about cardiac pacing and electrophysiology with participants from all over the globe.

CardioRhythm 2011, a biennial conference that has been held for the past four years, is co-organized by Hong Kong College of Cardiology and Chinese Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. This year’s conference featured presentations from world leaders in areas such as sudden cardiac death, new drugs, ablation, treatment for atrial fibrillation, pacing and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) advances, cardiac resynchronization techniques, and remote patient monitoring.

Presenters included Andrea Natale, M.D., F.H.R.S., F.A.C.C., F.E.S.C., Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Executive Medical Director of TCAI; J. David Burkhardt, M.D., F.H.R.S., F.A.C.C., Cardiac Electrophysiologist at TCAI; Luigi Di Biase, M.D., Ph.D., Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist and Senior Researcher at TCAI; Rong Bai, M.D., Researcher at TCAI; Tami Metz, R.N., Nurse Manager of the Electrophysiology Lab at TCAI; and Barbara Thomas, R.N., F.H.R.S., Director of Electrophysiology Services at TCAI.

Dr. Di Biase earned the “best abstract” award for his work in endocardial/epicardial ablation of ventricular tachycardia (VT) patients who have arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD). Dr. Bai won the “best poster” award for his research of endocardial and endocardial/epicardial ablation of VT patients with ARVD.

An exhibition featuring the latest products, equipment and educational materials in cardiac diseases was also held in conjunction with this year’s CardioRhythm 2011 conference.
