Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute at St. David's Medical Center Hosts Two-Day Conference For Treatment of Heart Pacing Conditions

AUSTIN, Texas—On February 19 and 20, 2011, the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI) at St. David’s Medical Center hosted a two-day conference designed to provide insight into the basic concepts of bradycardia pacing and tachyarrhythmia detection and programming.

The conference, “Basic Concepts of Device Management for Cardiology Fellows,” focused on the use of Medtronic equipment. The event instructed participants on how to identify appropriate pacing modes and implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) detection settings based on patient disease states.

Participants learned how to conduct a pacemaker, ICD and cardiac resynchronization therapy follow-up on the Medtronic 2090 Programmer, as well as review device diagnostics and identify information that can be useful in patient management. Attendees also learned how to perform a simulated pacemaker implant using the Virtual Cath Lab.

The conference featured Robert C. Canby, M.D., F.A.C.C., Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist at TCAI; Andrea Natale, M.D., F.H.R.S., F.A.C.C., F.E.S.C., Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Executive Medical Director of TCAI; Jason Zagrodzky, M.D., F.A.C.C., Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist at TCAI; Manish Assar, M.D., Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Baylor Heart and Vascular in Dallas; and Medtronic faculty members. It attracted approximately 30 physicians from across the United States.
